Traditional Massage Therapy & Advanced Manual Therapy
What is the difference in our clinic?
Every Heart in Hands treatment is grounded in thoughtful, therapeutic pressure. Whether you are looking for traditional massage or a more advanced manual therapy approach, your treatment is always adapted to what your body needs that day. Traditional massage therapy tends to focus more directly on the muscles and soft tissues, using techniques such as Swedish massage, petrissage, myofascial release, joint mobilization, ligamentous techniques, trigger point release, stretching, range of motion and positional release. Advanced manual therapy looks more broadly at the relationships between the body’s tissues and systems, using techniques such as craniosacral therapy, neuromeningeal manipulation, somatoemotional release, visceral manipulation, osseous loading and work directed toward the interstitium. The distinction isn’t about one being “better” or requiring more pressure—it is about where we place our attention and which therapeutic tools are most appropriate.
Before your session begins, we’ll talk about what you are hoping to get from your treatment. Maybe you want to relax, have your muscles worked, address a specific area of tension or simply feel good in your body. Or perhaps you have something more complex going on and want a slower, more investigative treatment that explores how different structures may be contributing to the way you feel. You don’t need to know which approach you need—we can figure that out together. Your goals, your preferences and what we discover through assessment will guide the treatment, with the pressure and techniques continually adapted to your body’s response.
